Voter Updates & Voter Adjudication

Voter Updates & Voter Adjudication

During an election, it may be necessary to update voters and/or their information. The update can be for an individual voter or be done for several voters via a bulk voter updater.

To read more about how you can update voters, see the section on the voter updater.

  • Important to know about voter updates during an election:

Updating a voter’s weight does not impact votes which have already been cast. The voter with a new weight will have to recast their vote in order for the change to be successfully implemented.

“Voter adjudication” happens when a submitted vote’s status is changed. In Electa, a user may adjudicate a vote by disabling a voter. Any submitted vote by the affected voter will, should the voter be disabled, get canceled. This will not change previously generated results, but it will affect any voting rounds which are currently running or have been running without a result yet.

A vote is canceled when:

  • An individual voter’s “Enabled” status is updated to “Disabled” either by a manual change or by using the voter updater. NOTE that:

    • The system will not provide any messages or alerts for cancelled votes in this situation.

    • If a voter group for the individual voter has been changed in the meantime, the vote is irreversibly canceled.

  • A voter’s group is changed either manually or bulk updated. The following warning messages will appear:

Manually changing a voter’s group

Bulk update a voter’s group

A submitted vote is irreversibly canceled when:

  • A voter is deleted from the voter list.

Nothing happens to the submitted vote when:

  • A voter’s name is changed either manually or bulk updated.

  • A voter’s election code is changed either manually or bulk updated.

  • A voter’s email address is changed either manually or bulk updated.

  • A voter’s mobile number is changed either manually or bulk updated.

  • A voter’s weight is changed either manually or bulk updated.*

  • A voter’s segment is changed either manually or bulk updated.*

  • The voter groups subscription is changed.

*The voter will need to go and vote again to ensure that the updated information applies to the vote. For example, if their weight has been updated, the vote is still submitted with the original voting weight which was tied to the voter when the vote was submitted.
