Election Verification Site
The Election Verification Site (EVS) is an external public service which accompanies every election in Electa. The EVS is targeted towards voters and auditors who want to more closely follow the election process. It consists of tools for the voter to double-check the content of their ballot before they cast their vote (Ballot Tester) and for the voter to track their vote once it has been submitted (Ballot Tracker). Additionally, an Election Activity Log provides both voters and auditors information about the election’s configuration and processes, thereby rendering the election more transparent.
To access the EVS as a user from the backend:
Go to “E2E” in the main menu to the left.
Click on “Board” in the E2E control panel.
Click on the button “Audit site” to navigate to the page.
From the EVS page, you can access the Ballot Tester, Ballot Tracker, and Election Activity Log by selecting them in the top navigation bar.
There is an FAQ page with frequently asked questions about the tools. You may also select the webpage’s language (this depends on the locales you have chosen for your election – read more on locales here).
On the EVS homepage, you will also be able to access the Ballot Tester via the “Test my ballot” button and the Ballot Tracker with the “Track my ballot” button (see the image below).
Setting up the Election Verification Site
Customization to bring your election’s appearance in line with your organization’s branding can be done via Electa’s configuration menu.
The Election Verification site uses the same color theme, logo, locales, and image which have been used for the election branding and setup. You can read more about the branding and customization in the election setup section.
An Election Verification Site contact URL can be set up in Electa via the Configuration menu under the subheader “Election Verification Site.” If this link has been set up, it will provide the voter access to an external website where they can get in touch with you in case they run into issues and/or need help during the election. You can read more about the setup of the link in the election setup section.
Hiding or password-protecting the EVS is not possible. The Election Verification Site is a public service for scrutineers/auditors and is part of any election in Electa. The voter can access it if the end-to-end (E2E) verifiable functions are turned on when configuring an election. However, anyone with the link/URL for the dedicated Election Verification Site will still be able to access the service.
