Creating voter groups with contest mappings
This guide provides an overview of how to automatically create voter groups based on contest mapping, using the voter importer or updater. Note: this requires a feature flag to be enabled at the Organisation level.
This feature enables the dynamic creation of voter groups based on a column in the uploaded file for the Voter Updater and Importer – this column, in turn, contains the reference(s) of contest(s).
Before starting, you must have at least two contests in your election. See the following guides for help in setting up an election and a contest:
Additionally, it is helpful to get acquainted with the Voter Importer flow: Import a voter file
First, you must ensure that the voter file you wish to import contains a column with the contest references to which the voters will be linked. For cases where there is more than one reference, these need to be separated with a “|” symbol.
Now go through the voter importer flow as you normally would. When mapping the fields of the file, you will see an additional field: “Column with contest references separated by a delimiter”.
Here, you should select the respective column name from the voter file containing the contest references. The system will then show you the voter groups it will create based on the contest mappings and the number of voters in each voter group.
Once the successful import is done, you can see an overview of how many voters were imported and how many voter groups were created.
Under “Voter Groups”, you can then see all the new voter groups created, the number of voters, and the number of contests associated with the voter group.
The naming of the voter group takes that first four letters of each contest reference and combines them to create a unique name.
