Recommendations Flows
In this guide, we will describe the different flows when working with recommendations in Candidacy. There are three flows, each from a different point of view:
Firstly, the system admin/user needs to set up the necessary recommendations configurations in the backend.
Then, a candidate needs to request a recommendation by sending an invitation to another end-user (herein known as a recommender).
The recommender will then be presented with the option of accepting or declining the recommendation invitation.
1.1. Set up recommendations
Under the “Configuration“ tab, find the “Recommendation config“ section. These configurations are crucial to ensure that the recommendations flow works as it should.
Start by enabling recommendations by toggling on the “Enabled“ feature.
Set “Candidate recommendation restriction“ to “Restrict self recommendation”. This will make it so that candidates cannot give recommendations to themselves.
Specify “Minimum required recommendation“ to 2 required recommendations. This means that every candidate will require at least 2 recommendations before their candidacies can be considered valid.
Leave the remaining fields with their default selection.
Finally scroll down to “An identity is required for“ and enable “Recommending a candidate“, which will ask any recommender to prove their identities before giving a recommendation.

1.2. Create a recommendation form
The next step is to create a recommendation form, which is used to gather information about the recommender. Once a recommender accepts a recommendation invitation, they will be presented with this recommender form before submitting their endorsement.
From the “Forms” tab, click
and select “Recommendation form.”
This will open a new recommendation example form, which you can further customize.
Click on the “+” symbol to see all of the form fields.
Now, from the grey bar, start adding the different fields to the form.
Click
to add another text field.
Under “Attribute name,” write “memberid”
Enable “Required“ and skip all the other items.
Under “Label,” write “Member ID.”
Finally, click on the
button. This will create the form and show a preview of the form. You have now created a recommendation form.
Now all the necessary recommendations configurations are set up and we will move on to the frontend of Candidacy.

The following step will require a candidate profile in the system – see how to do that in the following guides:
2.1. Send a recommendation invitation
Start by going to your user panel. This can be accessed by clicking on your name in the top-right corner: , (in this example, the name is “Alice Roberts“).
The user panel (see image below) is divided between the candidate’s profile and a recommender section:
In the candidate’s profile, you can see:
Information on your profile, which can be edited at any point by clicking on the
button.
Recommendations received compared to the minimum recommendations needed.
Number of invitations sent as well as number of declined invitation.
In the recommender’s section (“Given recommendations“), you can access:
Candidates who would like your recommendations,
And recommendations you have given to other candidates.
To send a recommendation invitation, start by clicking on the button, under the “Candidacy“ section. You will be redirected to a new page, “Invite new recommender“:
In the “Name” field, write the name of the recipient of the email invitation (that is, the person who you wish to receive a recommendation from).
In the “Email” field, write their email address. If you have used your own email address to create a candidate profile for testing purposes, make sure to write another email address in this field.
Scroll down to the bottom of the page and hit the button to finalize and send out the invitation. You have now sent a recommendation invitation and the recommender should have received it in an email!

3.1. Accept/decline invitation
As a recommender, you will receive an invitation via email. In this email, you will be redirected to the candidate’s profile, where you can accept or decline the recommendation invitation.
Click on the “Go to their profile“ button to be redirected to the candidate’s profile.
Click “Accept invitation“ to give your recommendation to this candidate.
Before giving your endorsement, you will need to prove your identity.
Click on “Prove identity” and then write the identity’s unique ID in the text field.
“Confirm identity” will then lead you to a final confirmation step. Here you will find the form fields from the recommendation form you created before.
Once all the necessary information fields have been completed, hit “Confirm“ to finalize your recommendation. You will receive an email confirming your recommendation.
