How to setup a contest

The next step in the process is to create and configure the votes for your election. In this section, you will set up one ballot (or contest).

Click on “Contests” to be directed to the tab where you will configure the election’s ballots. You will now create a contest.
To create a contest, click on the “+ New” button. For this contest, we will be entering a title and a description while also configuring the advanced contest settings.

In the “Title” field, enter the text “Example vote.”
In the “Description” field, write the following text: “Vote for up to two of your favorite candidates.”
Click on the “<” arrow symbol on the bar to the right of the new contest box to open the advanced settings.
1. Under the field “Maximum votes per voter,” set the amount to “2” as we want the voter to be able to select up to 2 candidates on this ballot.
2. Under the field “Seats,” set the amount to “2.” This defines how many options can win or be elected in the contest.

These are all of the settings you need to configure for the vote.

Scroll down to the end of the page and click on the “Create contest” button to save. The contest has now been created and you should be able to see the summary of it on the page.

Before the vote has been fully set up, it needs candidates. As such, you now need to create options (or candidates) for your contest.

Click on the “+ Create new option” button to create your first option/candidate.

Write “Jane Doe” in the “Title” field.
Then, click on “Create option,” where you should now see that the option has been created.

Repeat steps 1, 2, and 3 above using the candidate names “Nomen Nescio” and “Kai” so you have 3 total candidates in the options list.

You have now set up your first contest.

Finally, check the appearance of the contest by clicking on “Preview.” This shows you how the ballot will appear to the voter when they vote in the contest.
