Getting started with Electa

Before jumping into configuring and setting up an election, it is necessary to first log into the system, set up multi-factor authentication, and then create an election. These steps are each covered in greater detail below.

To gain access to the system for the first time, you should have received an email invitation to do so.

  1. Click the link to set up your new password in Electa.

Choose a password, type it into the first field, and repeat the same password in the second field. We recommend creating a strong password consisting of at least 15 characters.

To enable two-factor authentication, please download an authenticator app which supports TOTP. Examples of these include Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator.

How to enable two-factor authentication:

  1. Download an authenticator app onto your phone or mobile device.

  2. Inside Electa, click on the banner “Setup two factor authentication” at the top of the screen.

  3. Open the app and connect it to Electa by scanning the QR code shown on your computer screen.

  4. Once completed, the app will show an account with the label “electa.assemblyvoting.net”.

  5. By entering the currently active TOTP, you enable two factor authentication for your user. You cannot log in without entering the TOTP, so make sure to keep the authenticator app around.

  6. Take a screenshot or copy the backup MFA codes shown on your computer and keep them safe.

Next time you sign in, you will be required to insert the TOTP code generated by your authentication application.

Once you have logged in to Electa, you can now create elections.

  1. Click on the “Elections” tab in the menu to the left.

3.1. Import an election

To import an election, you will first need the .zip file exported from another election (read more on that here). Start by clicking “Import Election” from the Elections overview page, and select the file.

  • Note that the importer only accepts .zip file.

The new imported election will appear at the top of the “Elections” overview page. And from here, you are able to edit the election.
