Ballot Tester

Ballot Tester

The Ballot Tester is a tool for the voter to test the content of their ballot before it is submitted to the digital ballot box. This tool cannot be activated or deactivated via the Election Verification Site. You will find any configuration information available for the Election Verification process through the configuration menu on Electa. Read more about it here.

To read more on how to use the Ballot Tester, refer to the sections “End-to-end voting flow (Scheduled voting)” and “End-to-end voting flow (Live Conference voting)” which serve as guides for each of the election types.

Good things to know about testing ballots

  • If the voter closes an ongoing ballot test session, either on the verification site or in the election system, the voter will be unable to retrieve their progress and will have to start over. This requires generating a new verification code. A ballot test session starts after the voter has entered the verification code on the election verification site and the voter has clicked “test ballot” in the election system.

  • The Ballot Test feature has a session timeout which may be set via the configuration menu in Electa. The amount of time before a ballot test expires cannot be set higher than that of the voting session configured in Electa. Read more about it here.

  • The Ballot Test cannot be done once a voter has submitted their vote. The voter will have to start a new voting session to overwrite their previous vote should they wish to do the ballot test. This will only be possible if you have enabled the recasting of votes feature when setting up the election system.
