Results

Results

There are two different types of results inside Electa. The type of results you receive will depend on which type of voting event you are conducting. In this chapter, we will explain how to generate and extract the results for the two types of events.

Generating results in Scheduled Voting

The results of a Scheduled Voting election can be generated when the election is finished.

  1. Go to the “Voting Round” tab and close the voting round for which you want to generate a result.

  2. Ensure the status of the voting round is set to “Closed” or, if it was set to “Scheduled,” that the closing time and date have passed.

If the voting round is open, push the yellow Screenshot 2024-08-13 at 09.52.35.png button in the right-hand corner of the voting round.

  1. Go to the “Result” tab. Here, click on the “Start extraction” button.

  1. The process of extracting the results is now starting and you can follow the progress via the progress bar. Once the result has been extracted, it will appear on the page.

From here, you can see the different results on each ballot tied to a given voting round and download the following:

Screenshot 2025-04-10 at 13.16.12.png
  • You can publicise the result for human trustees by clicking on “Make public”. This will show the result inside the Trustee App for the trustees to review.

  • You can download a .zip file with all of the results by clicking on “Download results”.

  • You can download a result audit .zip file which includes all relevant files for mixing and decryption proofs, by clicking on “Download result audit (.zip)“.

  • You can open a .pdf file with the result report by clicking on “View result report (.pdf)”.

  • You can edit the results report by clicking on the Screenshot 2024-08-13 at 10.49.54.png button – see more on this below.

A results report can only be edited after it has been generated. To edit the results report, click on the Screenshot 2024-08-13 at 10.49.54.png button in the top-right corner of the page.

In editing mode, there are four aspects that can be edited.

Screenshot 2025-03-26 at 10.47.59.png
  • Color elected: This option allows to edit the visual display of the results. When this feature is enabled, the elected options will be shown in the color green. If disabled, it will be colorless.

  • Color tied: This option allows to edit the visual display of the results. When this feature is enabled, options that have tied will be shown in the color yellow. If disabled, it will be colorless.

  • Combined result: This option allows to combine contest results of those options with the same references. When this feature is enabled, you need to specify the references which should included and summed up in the combined result.

    • Click “+ add more“ if there are more option references that should be combined. To find the option references, read more here.

  • Report information: In this section, you are able to add extra text or notes to the result report. This can be done in two ways:

    • You can write the necessary information in the textbox of your desired language. The field allows for html styling. There are 5 predefined languages (English, Danish, German, Spanish, and French) included, and you can only get the result report in those languages.

    • You can also click on the Screenshot 2024-08-13 at 10.57.28.pngbutton of your desired language, and this will add different pieces of information depending on specific changes in election to the report.

      • Under the section “Remarks“, it adds the count of any extra individual voters created during the voting period and the count of any new voter importers completed during the voting period. If neither were done, it will simply state “There are no remarks for the conduction of this voting period“.

      • Under the section “Voting Period“, it either adds the timestamps of when the voting round was automatically opened and closed or if the voting round was opened/closed manually it states: “The voting period was managed manually”.

Once you are done with your changes, either click Screenshot 2024-08-13 at 10.59.35.png to save them or Screenshot 2024-08-13 at 10.59.48.png to close the edit page, without saving any changes. After saving your changes, click on Screenshot 2024-08-13 at 11.00.31.png and you will now see the newly edited result report.

Additionally, if you change the language of your system backend using the top-right corner, the default language of the result report will also be changed. This will ONLY affect result reports for Scheduled Voting elections. The election result report can only be in one language at a time. If you need it in several languages, you will need to download multiple reports in your desired languages.

Generating results in Live Conference Voting

When conducting a Live Conference Voting event, the user will (in most cases) generate the results immediately on the ballot slide after a vote has occurred.

To generate the result, you must first confirm that the ballot slide has been closed inside of the conductor panel.

  1. Once closed, a green button appears in the panel labeled “Calculate result.” Click on this button to start the result extraction process.

  1. The extraction process goes through multiple phases, displayed as “Anonymisation,” “Decryptions,” “Aggregation,” and “Finished.” These will also be visible to voters on the ballot slide as the calculation progresses. Once the process is done, the results will be accessible from inside of the conductor panel, visible to the user only.

Screenshot 2025-04-10 at 14.01.27.png
  1. Click on the bar at the bottom of the conductor panel called “Voting Rounds.”

  2. Next, click on “Finished rounds” and select the ballot you just calculated.

Screenshot 2025-04-10 at 14.15.49.png
  • Under the “Voting Rounds“ panel, you can see the results of the ballot and the turnout statistics. The “Result report“ button will lead you to the result report backend page – read more about the result report here and how to edit the result report here.

Screenshot 2025-04-10 at 14.18.11.png
  • The “Results“ overview, alongside the results of the ballot, shows the following turnout statistics:

    • Voters that have voted - The number of voters who have cast ballots in the contest.

    • Eligible voters present - The number of eligible voters who were present/online in the system while the ballot slide was open for voting but did not necessarily vote.

    • Total eligible voters - The total number of eligible voters there were for this ballot slide.

    • By individual - Sums up the number of individual voters.

    • By weight - If voters have weights other than 1, those weights will be summed up here.

Publishing generated results to voters

After it has been calculated, the result can be published to all the voters present in the election system or at the election event. You can do this by simply clicking on the green button in the conductor panel labeled “Make public.” The results will then appear on the ballot slide to all voters.

Screenshot 2025-04-10 at 14.26.59.png

By default, elected and tied candidates will be shown in green and yellow colors, respectively. If you wish to remove all colours for elected and/or tied candidates, click on the “Result report” button and within the editing feature untoggle “Color elected” and “Color tied”.

Screenshot 2025-05-02 at 08.55.09.png
Screenshot 2025-05-02 at 08.56.50.png

Click “Update Voting round report” and navigate back to the Conductor panel. You can now publish the results by clicking on the green button “Make public”.

Once the result has been made public, it cannot be undone or hidden again.

When you navigate away from the slide with the published results, voters can no longer see them. For voters to see the results afterwards, you will have to make the voting rounds module available to them when initially configuring the election event.
